Awnings/Sun sails

The sun is boon and bane at the same time. However, with the suitable sun protection the sunbeams are stemmed. Common ways of sun protection are awnings as they are really a great alternative to sun sails and parasol. An awning protects you from direct sunlight and moreover it is effective against heat and rain.
With a suitable awning negative side-effects of the sun such as dazzling and overheating can be avoided (Markise, Sonnensegel).

The different variations of awnings are marked by their colours, patterns and types and do also serve as decoration elements for the façade, balcony and conservatory. Even in beer gardens awnings are applied for sun the protection against the sun. Next to this, awnings do as well protect you from dazzling, unwelcome views, heat, rain and may even function as building protection. Modern awning fabrics make the awnings quite weather resistant. The cloths can as well be made of PVC, polyester or acryl (Sonnenschutz, Sichtschutz, Blendschutz).

Awnings are available in diverse variations whereas the most common type is the drop arm awning or boxed awning (Fallarmmarkise, Kassettenmarkise).

Especially suitable for the conservatory roof are conservatory awnings which block the UV radiation from above. However, due to the sun shining through the window a conservatory heats up very fast. Here blinds are a good choice as well as pleats curtains. Both regulate the incoming light and, due to their decorative features, give the conservatory a personal touch (Jalousie, Plissee).

Awnings are the ideal shadow donors for every garden, terrace and balcony and thus provide great service. Some awning producers offer special functions for their products. The awnings are operated as follows: bar or crank mechanism, pull-cord or pulley by means of an electrical motor. This is often controlled by an infrared remote control or a computer-controlled sun protection system with sun light controller which automatically spreads the awning if the sun radiation gets too high. Other technical features are the wind control and rain control which automatically close the awning in case of wind or rain.

Note:

Though there are sophisticated draining devices for rainwater depending on the awning type and producer; should the cloth be rolled up in moisture condition, e.g. after a light summer rain it necessarily has to be rolled out for drying soon.
