With especially delicate and light curtain fabrics cross members are included for stabilization and for creating an equal fold image. However, also with thicker fabrics an even fold image can be achieved with the just mentioned method. The ties are vertically inserted in the fabric with large distances and they are united at the upper part of the Roman blind. Therefore, your Roman blind will always stay straight when lifted and will go down equally.

Shutters as sun protection and visual shield can be mounted inside or outside of windows. The lamellae that are fixed on narrow chords can be made from different materials: wood, aluminium or other metals as well as synthetics. Depending on the intended purpose the width varies. For the interior usage narrower lamellae widths are preferred, whereas for outside sun protection wider lamellae made from weather-resistant materials are better suited.

A further development is the shape of the roll jalousie, which consists of fabric or steel strips and is fixed on rods. It serves as a variable sun protection and visual shield at the inner side of your window.

In addition to the lamellae of the shutter made of rolled aluminium, wood, stainless steel or PVC, the construction of the shutter also consists of a head as well as the drop bar, which are mostly made of tin. For wet rooms, like bathrooms, kitchens and so on, rust-resistant materials are available, which are at the same time easy to care for and to clean. The cheap synthetic lamellae – usually products from the Far East – are less attractive as well as less durable, but still fulfill their purpose as sun protection and visual shield for simpler requirements. The conventional standardized widths of the lamellae, which you can get in any shop, are 12 mm, 16 mm, 25 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm. Which width is best suitable for your window mainly depends on the size of the window. Smaller windows look better with narrower lamellae. With bigger windows, which also have a larger window depth, wider lamellae can look very stylish.

The fixing directly at the casement or in the glass fillet provides the advantage that your shutter does not have to be lifted in case you want to open the window or the door.
